Speaking with BoxingScene.com, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer denied a recent story which claimed that he signed a contract extension with Golden Boy Promotions until 2018. In the article, Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya told the Los Angeles Times that Schaefer had extended his contract with Golden Boy until 2018. De La Hoya also discussed the possibility of doing business with Bob Arum of Top Rank.
While Schaefer would not reveal the length, or the terms, of his contract with Golden Boy, he had "no idea" what De La Hoya was talking about as it relates to signing a contract extension.
For several weeks, there have been rumors of a internal rift between De La Hoya and Schaefer. Both men claim the situation has been greatly exaggerated.
"I'm not going to discuss my current contractual relationship with Golden Boy, but I am not aware of signing a contract extension recently, so I have no idea what Oscar is talking about, you would have to ask him [regarding what he's talking about]. I'm the CEO of the company and I'm working very hard, I'm doing my job and I'm making fights. You saw me at Floyd's workout earlier today. It's almost 9pm and I'm still working. I know that Oscar, as part of his recovery, is making friends with Arum and I support him if that's what he wants to do. But I have no interest in working with Arum. I've been led down that road many times and I don't want to do it again," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
