According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs) is going to announce his next opponent shortly.

Mayweather is scheduled to return on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The two frontrunners are Amir Khan and WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Both fighters have already begun training, as they wait for Mayweather's decision.

"We have been working behind the scenes behind the scenes. When Floyd is going to be ready, he is going to announce it. As always, it's going to be can't miss TV. Every May and September, not only the boxing world, but the sports world and the general public is tuning in to see Mayweather fight. This is no exception. There is always a lot of work and preparation with a Mayweather fight. We are not weeks away, but days away [from an announcement]. It's up to Floyd Mayweather on when he wants to push the button, meaning that he will release his announcement on Twitter. In the meantime, I think people should keep a close eye on his Twitter, because suddenly it's going to come," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
