Sasso Lopez Outboxes Miguel Soto For Big Win In P.R.

By Jake Donovan

Unbeaten super featherweight prospect Edgar Sasso Lopez survived some scary moments from knockout artist Miguel Soto to score a unanimous decision Saturday evening in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Scores were 79-72, 78-73 and 77-74 in their eight-round headliner, which aired live on WAPA America.

Sasso was at his best when able to box and utilize the entire ring, avoiding the two-fisted incoming from his fellow Boricua. In building up an early lead, Sasso was able to withstand a late rally from Soto, who tried like hell to score the knockout - literally the only way he knows how to win in the pro ranks.

The win advances Sasso's record to 9-0-1 (4KO), as the 24-year old has now won three straight since the lone blemish on his record - a Nov. '12 six-round draw with Orlando Vazquez which was later avenged.

Soto drops to 12-2 (12KO), losing for the second time in his past three contests.

Speaking of Orlando Vazquez, the Puerto Rican lightweight suffered the first knockout loss of his career, falling prey to Jeffrey Fontanez (14-0, 11KO) in the very first round.

Also appearing on the card, heavyweight Carlos Cotto - cousin to world famous former three-division champion Miguel Cotto - continued his run of early knockouts against made-to-order competition.

Saturday's victim was hapless Sandy Antonio Soto, who was dropped and stopped in the opening round.
