Santa Cruz: Canelo Needs Combos, Body Work To Win

Newly crowned WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz stresses that if Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) is to win the Solid Gold strap against Floyd "Money" Mayweather (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - he must give the pound for pound best a real belting....and that involves multiple combinations.
Leo, who recently visited Mexico City to be presented with his WBC belt and one for his Brother Roberto, who's valiently battling Lupus, explained the strategy must be to throw punches in bunches.
He said: "If I was Canelo, I would go out to pressure Floyd. This needs more than two punch combinations. If that happens, Floyd will be elusive. But if Canelo throws four or five punch combintions it will be much more effective.
"I would also go for the body, and work upwards. To hit Floyd on the head might initially be difficult, but going to the body will provide more success in going for the head.
"It's a difficult fight because Floyd has a lot of experience and he's always well prepared, but I'm going for Canelo. Canelo is young and strong, and if he catches Floyd with a good punch, I think he can knock him out."

Canelo is gonna have to step in and take a hit to land that body shot. That's the only way he has a shot at making any kind of dent on Floyd. If he decides to go the Guerrero way…
