Sanchez: Golovkin Ready For Ward, But it Needs to Season

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs), feels his boxer is more than ready for a potential big fight with WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward (26-0, 14KOs). Ward vs. Golovkin is becoming a hot topic of discussion, as both boxers are lacking many lucrative opponents in their respective divisions.

Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, says his company is not going to rush a potential Ward vs. Golovkin clash. Loeffler wants the fight to gain more momentum as Golovkin continues to build his name at 160. Loeffler states the encounter with Ward will potentially happen in 2014. Golovkin will return to HBO in November and may take another fight beforehand.

"As Tom made abundantly clear, the fight needs to be simmered, it needs to be marinated, it needs to be talked about. But the way it starts is by Andre or Andre's people calling Tom Loeffler, and trying to start the dialogue. They are not going to just sign it tomorrow and the fight is going to be on for the next week. They have to talk about this. HBO has to talk about it. All of that has to be discussed. The first person to call is Tom Loffler. If Tom puts it together and everything is the way it's suppossed to be as far as Tom is concerned, then absolutely [Golovkin] is ready," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.

GGG looks to be a promising fighter, he's accomplished before turning pro and has power... but beating a guy in Macklin who was already beat up and stopped by Martinez simply because you fight with more of a power puncher…

Translation: He's not ready for Ward yet. Honestly, GGG has much work to do at 160lbs. If the guys at MW are willing to fight him, those are the fights I would like to see right now. Then, we could…
