Samuel Vargas, Tyson Cave Win Bouts in Montreal

by Richard Cloutier

At the Chapiteau CCSE Maisonneuve in Montreal, Ontario's Samuel Vargas (14-0-1) won an eight round unanimous decision over veteran Giuseppe Lauri (53-13-0) of Italy. Former WBC International and European Union, Lauri, was dropped in the first round by the NABA welterweight champion of Canada. However, Lauri was able to use his skills as a veteran to last until the end. The scores were 79-73 | 79-73 | 78-72.

On the same card, super bantamweight Tyson Cave (21-2-0) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who owns the NABA and WBC Continental Americas crowns, dominated his opponent, David Kanalas (12-7-0) . After two rounds, Cave dropped Kanalas three times and recorded the win by TKO at 2:38.

Also, Montreal's Ahmad Cheikho (11-4-2) recorded a win over French boxer Steven Bloyer (14-9-0) by unanimous decision after a hotly contested battle.

The gala was organized by Boxing Club East. Promoter Douggy Bernèche told BoxingScene.com/Netboxe.com that another event is being put together with a headline fight between Samuel Vargas and Ahmad Cheikho. Recall that the two men had first met in 2011 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, and the duel was considered the fight of the year in Canada. Negotiations were opened with the agents of the two boxers. Vargas won the first meeting by TKO in five.
