Orlando Salido is less than two weeks away from his title defense against Mikey Garcia. The fight takes at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York and will be televised by HBO.
The WBO featherweight champion appeared on a recent edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show to talk to us about the fight. Salido praised Garcia for his performance in his most recent fight, a November knockout victory over former champion Jonathan Barros.
"He fought an intelligent fight. He fought to win in a way that he wouldn't get cut or anything on his face because he knew a championship fight against me was on the line," Salido stated.
The 32-year-old Salido has trained very hard for this fight. He feels that a victory over Garcia will lead to even bigger fights in the future.
"This is a very important fight for me. Garcia's a good fighter. He's undefeated and a big name in the division. A win will lead to even bigger fights for me," The Mexican revealed.
Salido is from the Mexican state of Sonora and said that there is a buzz in his homeland in regards to his fight. He told us that he promises to put on an exciting show for his fans.
"The fans in Mexico know this is a big fight. It's the talk of the town at home. They know who Mikey Garcia is and they know who I am. They know its guaranteed to be a war," Salido told The Boxing Lab.
