Former Argentine champion and the current interim Fedelatin welterweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Hector "El Tigre" Saldivia, is getting himself together for a planned October clash with British fighter Kell Brook. The winner will become the mandatory challenger for the welterweight world title of the International Boxing Federation (IBF). Saldivia is training in Oxnard, California.
"I have already confirmed my next fight. A fight in October against an Englishman, Kell Brook, in an IBF world title eliminator," said "El Tigre", who in May signed a management agreement with Sergio "Maravilla "Martinez, and a long-term promotional agreement with the promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, owner of Sampson Boxing LLC.
The reigning IBF welterweight world champion is Randall Bailey, who faces Devon Alexander on September 8 in San Antonio.
Saldivia (41-2, 32 KOs), born in Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, 28 years ago, is ranked at No. 5 by the IBF, and carries a streak of eight wins. Brook (28-0, 18 KOs), born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, and 26 years, is ranked at No. 4 by the IBF, but now should move to No. 2 after winning a majority decision over IBF No.2 ranked Carson Jones last month.
