Ryabinsky Sues Don King For $2.4 Million Over Jones
By Edward Chaykovsky
Promoter Don King is now facing a $2.4 million dollar lawsuit over his alleged failure to deliver Guillermo Jones for last month's rematch with WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev in Moscow, Russia.
Andrei Ryabinsky, CEO of World of Boxing LLC, had his lawyers file a lawsuit in Manhattan Federal court on Wednesday. According to the New York Post, Ryabinsky is looking to recover the funds that he laid out for the event, which includes a fee of $800,000 dollars that he deposited in King's bank account to deliver Jones.
Last May, Jones tested positive for Furosemide (a banned weight cutting agent) after his eleventh round knockout victory over Lebedev. The WBA ordered a rematch and the fight was scheduled to take place last month in Moscow. It was canceled an hour before the fighters were scheduled to enter the ring, after Ryabinsky and Lebedev were informed that Jones once again tested positive for Furosemide.
WADA approved labs were used for both fights.
I understand trying to get the $800k back, but I don't see why Don King should be held responsible for the rest of the damages.Comment by Cinci Champ on 05-29-2014
