Ruslan Provodnikov To Start Camp in Early August

By Yuri Tarantin

Vadim Kornilov, manager of Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15KOs), says his boxer will begin training camp in early August for the HBO televised fight with WBO 140-pound interim-champion Mike Alvarado (34-1, 23KOs) on October 19th at the 1stBank Center in Denver. Provodnikov will be training with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California. Provodnikov nearly knocked out WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley earlier this year, but in the end he lost a very close twelve round decision.

"Ruslan's flight to Los Angeles is scheduled for August 4. As he did before, he will be prepared for this fight by his trainers Freddie Roach and Gavin McMillan at Roach's Wild Card Gym. Ruslan's preparation will be held at the same time as the training camp of Miguel Cotto, who will be preparing for his fight on October 5th and also arrives in Los Angeles at the beginning of August. Our team is involved in the selection of sparring partners for Ruslan and finalizing the details of his phase of training high altitude. Such training is required, since the fight will be held in Denver at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level," Vadim said.
