Former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (27-2, 17KOs)wants to gain another world championship opportunity by the end of 2012. With only a single ring appearance in 2011, a decision loss to Alexander Povetkin, Chagaev wants a slow build to another shot. He wants to stay very active and work his way to a new title challenge. Chagaev, 33-years-old, returns on January 28th in Hamburg, Germany.
"I think I'll need at least a year to rise in the rankings and secure another title fight. I don't want to leave boxing. On the contrary, I want to start all over again, to rise in the rankings and to secure a championship bout through several performances, rather than one fight per year. I would like to fight once every three months before a championship fight," Chagaev said.
