World Boxing Association (WBA) "regular" heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-2-1, 21KOs) is now setting his sights on a mandatory defense against Australian puncher Lucas Browne (23-0, 20KOs). The fight will take place in Moscow or Grozny, according to the champion's manager Timur Dugazaev.

Chagaev was set to make a defense of his title in a rematch with Fres Oquendo on October 17 in Kiel, Germany. But then last week Oquendo withdrew from the contest with an injury.

Chgaev defeated Oquendo last year, but then Oquendo's team felt they were robbed on the cards and filed an appeal. That appeal was granted on the basis of the winner facing Browne in their next fight. Now that Oquendo is out, Browne must receive his title shot.

"The official challenger for the title is Lucas Browne. Right now we are waiting for the date of the mandatory by the WBA. The fight against Browne will be held in Russia - either in Moscow and Grozny. I'll discuss it with [Chagaev's promoter]," said Dugazaev.
