Middleweight contender Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5, 46KOs) explained that his agreed-upon purse for the bout with WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. (44-0-1, 31KOs) is not the best of his career. Rubio has been trying to get Chavez in the ring for a very long time and the money was secondary in the deal. He says the sacrifice of money will pay off in the long run. The important thing is beating Chavez on February 4th in San Antonio, Texas.

"Fighting against Chavez is a plus. It is worth a little more than just winning the world title. You have the possibility of going down in history as being the first boxer to beat Julio César Chávez, Jr., and I think that has a lot of meaning. I sacrificed a lot  to go for the title. This is my dream. Financially I am not rich but I'm fine. What I want is the world title. I was hard to accept this proposal, but I'm good," Rubio said.
Rubio doesn't realize what a strong bargaining position he was in - Jr's team would have paid him anything to get in line in front of Martinez.
haha, yeah i agree. hopefully rubio beats chavez jr.

Well Rubio fought against Kelly Pavlik when Kelly was on top i think that must have been his biggest purse and this may be the second. Truth be told i have always seen rubio as a journeyman and almost a bum, i dont really think he is a legitimate treath to JCCjr. Stil... i would love to see...
