So far 2017 has been a banner year for boxing, producing big fights such as Gennady Golovkin-Danny Jacobs, Keith Thurman-Danny Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz-Carl Frampton 2 and Canelo Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to name a few.
The second half of the year looks like it will feature even more star power as Manny Pacquiao figures to fight twice in the last 6 months of the year, former superstars Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez are slated to return to the ring after long hiatuses and in September the world will finally get the long waited showdown between Alvarez and Golovkin.
Ruben Guerrero, trainer of former champion Roberto Guerrero and top contender Oscar Escandon is looking forward to the fight. Once a critic of Canelo and his handlers for not making the fight, he was very pleased when he heard the fight was made.
"Triple G is a badass. I am telling you right now, man. I am telling you one thing, I don't know if he will knockout Canelo or not but it will be a great fight. Canelo is a great fighter too. That will be a great fight," said Guerrero who believes that the much younger Canelo also has good chance of getting a victory.
"You never know what will happen. Everyone has a chance when you get in the ring. You just have to get in the ring and do it and prove yourself and he might be able to do it."
Another mega-buck fight that may take place this fall is a cross sport collision featuring the previously retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
Guerrero feels that Mayweather, who defeated his son in 2013, will be way too much for Irishman.
"This is boxing and Mayweather is just going to give him a clinic and knock his ass out. That is what you call easy money for Mayweather," Guerrero told BoxingScene.com.
