There seems to be a minor struggle over the promotional contract between former WBO super featherweight champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez and promotional outfit Puerto Rico Best Boxing. Martinez was under the impression that his contract no longer valid, but Puerto Rico Best Boxing argued that his original contract was automatically extended because the boxer suffered a back injury which prevented him from fighting Luis Cruz on April 16.
"I notified him in writing of our intention to extend the contract for an additional amount of time, based on the clause stipulating that it extends for medical reasons," said PR Best Boxing Vice President, Peter Rivera, to Jose Sanchez. "He could not fight for the past eight months due to health problems, and we have that clause in place."
Gabriel Peñagarícano, Martinez's legal adviser, spoke very carefully when outlining the situation.
"Rocky is a world-class boxer and there are many promoters interested in him. But right now he's signed with PR Best Boxing, and the contracts are respected."
