The opponent for WBA junior flyweight champion Román "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (30-0, 25KOs) has changed again. Gonzalez returns on March 17th in Culiacan, Mexico. Gonzalez was first booked to face Raul Garcia, then it was changed to the twin brother, former champion Ramon Garcia (16-3-1, 9KOs). But, the Nicaraguan star wasn't happy with receiving a small purse of $40,000 for the fight with Garcia.
After further talks were held, Gonzalez will now face Manuel Jiminez (11-2-1, 5KOs) in a ten round non-title fight - for the same amount of money as he would have received for Garcia - and Gonzalez will face Garcia in a featured fight on April 21 in Mexico - and with more money involved.
"In the end, things went better than expected," said Silvio Conrado Jr., the attorney for Gonzalez. "The purse that Roman was going to receive for this defense on March 17th was very low, but we secured a fight with another opponent, for the same money and without exposing the title."
