Roman Gonzalez Eyes Filipino Opponent For 10/1

By Pablo Fletes, notifight.com

Currently the best fighter in Nicaragua, Román "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, already has small idea of who his next opponent is going to be. Gonzalez has learned that he will defend the flyweight crown of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against a Filipino opponent on October 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Toshiaki Nishioka will defend his WBC super bantamweight title in the main event against Rafael Marquez.

Several names are being kicked around for Chocolatito, including Glen Donaire (17-4-1, 9 KOs), the brother of boxer Nonito Donaire, and Denver Cuello (27-4-6, 19 KOs) and even Rodel Mayol (29-5-2, 21 KOs), who fought several times in Mexico.

Japanese promoter Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, along with Prodesa, will be responsible for retaining the opponent for Chocolatito.

I see Roman taking out pretty much everyone they put in front of him...maybe a move up in weight would do him some good.

Like the chances of Cuello and it will be an entertaining fight till it last... Chocolatito is to good and too early at this stage for Glens comeback fight..Mayol is inconsistent and not so convincing in his last outing considering…
