WBC flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez and WBC super flyweight champion Carlos "EL Príncipe" Cuadras traded hearted words with each other during a press gathering put together by the World Boxing Council in Mexico.

Gonzalez flew to Mexico to attend personally, but Cuadras was made available by telephone with his father Rosario present on his behalf. Cuadras is already in camp, training in California for the potential fight.

The two fighters are promoted by Mr. Honda of Teiken Promotions, who are working out the financial details for a planned HBO televised meeting on a September date in Los Angeles. The working dates of September 3 and September 10 are being looked at.

Cuadras (35-0-1, 27KOs) stated: "I'm in Los Angeles with Rudy Hernandez. I'm getting in shape for whatever comes. We are waiting to see how much the purse is going to be. He wants his fourth title, he is an excellent fighter, we are under the same team (Teiken), and it would be an honor to fight him."

Gonzalez (45-0, 38KOs) said: "As Carlos says there is still nothing finalized. There is no contract signed; no date, nothing. I'm training well. If we don't go for a fourth title, I will make a defense at 112 pounds. I am ready to do whatever I am told by the people who are guiding me."

Gonzalez also discussed the possibility of facing Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada (the WBA and WBO champion) in a rematch.

"At the time when I fought him, I beat him, and now he's saying that he won. All I can say is that if I get him back in the ring, I am sure that I can knock him out,"Gonzalez said.

Cuadras then cut in  - "You should not think about him. You already fought him and won. I am  the only one who can give you your medicine."

Gonzalez then replied: "If we fight the same thing will happen to you that happened to others. Additionally, we are not going to knock you out - we will crush you slowly."

And Cuadras hit back: "How will you manage to do that when you won't be able to find me with your punches?"
