Rodriguez Backs Martinez: A Lot More Skill Than Macklin

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com recently spoke to undfeated super middleweight Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (20-0) who takes on Donovan "The Bomb" George (22-1) later tonight in a fight that will be televised live by HBO.  The main event features middleweight king Sergio Martinez facing Mathew Macklin at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Cornelius White (18-1) has served as one of Rodriguez's chief sparring partners to help him prepare for George who is known for his power.  White's only loss was a 1st round knockout loss to George in February of last year.  Rodriguez holds White in high regard and because of that has a lot of respect for George.

"I've been in camp with Cornelius White who I have a lot of respect for.  Even though George knocked him out in the first round of their fight I know White is a good fighter.  I don't want to say it was a lucky punch because in boxing nothing is lucky.  George is a hungry fighter like me making his HBO debut," Rodriguez told Boxingscene.com.

Rodriguez also has a lot of respect for Martinez and doesn't give Macklin much of a chance of pulling off the upset on Saturday night.  He feels that the Argentine star's superior speed and skill set will be too much for the Irishman to overcome.

"I am going with Sergio.  He has a lot more skill. Macklin had a good fight against Sturm but Sergio has a lot more head movement and has a lot more speed and good footwork. The way he fights with his hands down make it hard to find him. I think that he is just overall a better fighter. I am going to be watching. I like watching Sergio fight," said Rodriguez.
Sergio will win late with a KO or lopsided decision, Martinez has only been stopped once by Margarito and there was probably plaster involved in that stoppage too. Now Chavez grow some balls and fight Martinez.
Plaster, my ass. Tony…

Martinez would mop the floor with Chavez jr and laugh in Sr's face for his Twitter comments and tell him he can catch a whooping too if he wants to step up in the ring. Shouldn't be a stretch either,…
