Rod Salka Admits: I Didn't Expect To Lose Like That

By "Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

Rod Salka (19-4, 3KOs) knew WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia would be the bigger and the stronger man last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Moving up from 135-pounds, he was a massive underdog coming into a fight with Garcia, at a catch-weight of 142-pounds. Garcia was reportedly, according to his father/trainer Angel Garcia, around 155-pounds in the ring.

The size difference was evident and the power was too much for Salka to handle. The underdog knew it was going to be a long night after catching Garcia with a few flush punches, and the champion walked right through them without blinking an eye.

"He's a big strong guy. I got caught with a shot and that was that. I knew he was the bigger, stronger guy so I wasn't surprised [at how much bigger he was]," Salka told BoxingScene.com.

"Whenever I got caught with a shot I was trying to fight back, that was stupid. I should have moved, covered up, maybe held him. I knew I wasn't going to go ten rounds and not get caught with anything. I didn't expect it to be like that."

"After the first round, I didn't feel that he had that crazy power like that. And I even felt that I could even see his shots coming. As soon as I thought that, in the next round I got caught with a shot that I didn't see coming. I landed a couple of shots but they had no effect on him, he walked right through them."

[QUOTE=Mike D;14853524]Dude. He's a boxer. You're supposed to believe that you can win. Like mentioned before in the thread, at least he didn't just go in there and lie down for a paycheck. He could have easily stayed down after…

Admitting that he "didn't expect to lose like that" proves that Salka was clearly delusional when he convinced himself that he was going to beat Garcia.
