Rocky Martinez: I'm Ready For Anything Burgos Brings

By Jhonny Gonzalez

The junior lightweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Roman "Rocky" Martinez, says he is ready for anything that Mexico's Juan Carlos Burgos brings to the table. Martinez (26-1-1, 16 KOs defends his title against Burgos (30-1, 20 KOs) on the 19th of January at the Theater in Madison Square Garden and the fight will be broadcast by HBO as part of their Boxing After Dark series.

Martinez is not taking Burgos for granted and recalls how the Mexican boxer beat his countryman, Luis Cruz.

"I feel very good, much better than I did for the fight against Miguel Beltran. Now what remains is to make the weight, and we're very close," said Martinez.

"We made a plan and we hope to fulfill it in the fight, but we are prepared for everything. We know that Burgos is a good fighter, elusive, and throws his hands well, but we are confident in the victory.  I have a great opportunity by being able to fight in New York and on HBO and I'm going to take this opportunity. I am ready for anything that Burgos brings."

This fight will be a war. Burgos has more skills but Martinez is the perfect example of a die-hard.....it takes a lot to discourage him in exchanges. Slight pick toward Martinez.

I can't wait to see this fight. I like how Burgos beat Cruz and how Martinez won his last fight. Should be a pretty good fight.
