According to Roman 'Rocky' Martinez (26-1-2, 16 KO's), the junior lightweight champion of the WBO, he expects to make his next title defense on April 13 against either undefeated Diego Magdaleno or former WBO featherweight king Orlando Salido, without discarding the possibility of a rematch with Juan Carlos Burgos. Martinez went to a controversial twelve round draw with Burgos on January 19th.
Martinez's next fight will possibly land on the undercard of the HBO televised super bantamweight unification between Nonito Donaire and Guillermo Rigondeaux, which is potentially going to take place in New York City.
"I have not sat down with my promoter to know the exact details but Magdaleno, Salido or a rematch with Burgos [are possibilities]. Everything depends on the business and if there is a good deal. [My next fight] should be on April 13," he confided.
Francisco Valcarcel, president of the WBO, said the protest by Burgos and his team has not been resolved as of yet.
"We still have not solved this protest. The Championship Committeehas to meet and evaluate all the evidence the feedback of some of judges. This is due to be settled next week," Paco said.
