Tabasco, Mexico - Roberto "Massa" Ortiz (29-0, 23KOs) outclassed and then blitzed brave Jorge Romero (24-6, 21KOs) to convincingly retain his WBC Silver super lightweight title in ten. Massa was winning after four, and then after eight, on the official cards. He was boxing better but Romero stayed with him using his youth and bigger size to effect. But in the tenth Massa unleashed a wind mill of punches. A big right put Romero in trouble, and another catapulted him into the ropes for a count. Wobbling but game Romero was not going to escape. A third flurry put him down, somehow he got up. But Referee Lupe Garcia saved him at 1:36.
Welterweight contender Jorge Silva (19-5-2, 16KOs), who was originally scheduled to face former champion Luis Collazo, lost a ten round unanimous decision over late replacement Ivan Alvarez (14-5).
Super middleweight Librado Andrade (31-5, 23KOs) battered overmatched Eduardo Ayala (17-36-4, 8KOs) in two rounds.
Non stop aggression helped Luis May convincingly retain his NABF bantamweight title at Tabasco Park in Mexico via unanimous decision, against southpaw Nacif Castillo. Nacif started with promise in the first landing two huge lefts, and by the second Luis had a bloody nose. But the tiger stripes on the side of his trunks were representative of his aggression. Outfoxed he cut the distance and landed with wicked straight rights and uppercuts. Nacif was deducted a point in the eighth for two low blows, and only a boxed in spurts. In a torrid eleventh a right uppercut seconds before the bell staggered Nacif, and he never fired on all cylinders against an insistent champion.Tags: Librado Andrade , Roberto Ortiz , Jorge Silva
