MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Trainer Robert Garcia is very familiar with the positives and the negatives of former three division world champion Adrien Broner (29-1, 22KOs). Last December at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Garcia was the guiding force behind Marcos Maidana's stunning victory over Broner.
Since suffering his first career defeat, Broner moved seven pounds south to junior welterweight and bounced back with two victories. Broner is now calling for a fight with Maidana's countryman, Lucas Matthysse (36-3, 34KOs).
While Garcia expects an entertaining encounter, he feels Matthysse is going to be too strong and his hard punches will carry him to victory.
"That's a good fight. Broner is fun to watch. I was at that fight [against Emmanuel Taylor in Cincinnati] and he's always fun to watch. Even when he fought us and we beat him - we're still his fans. He brings a good show. I think he's a good fighter, but I just see Matthysse landing and hurting him. I honestly see Matthysse hurting Broner but I think it's an interesting fight. I would pick Matthysse [to win] but like I said Broner is always good to watch, he's good for the sport and he's a good fighter but I just think Matthysse is too strong for him," Garcia told BoxingScene.com.
