Trainer Freddie Roach has made it clear that he doesn't believe Manny Pacquiao will retire and he's stated that he'd love to see his best known client face Terence Crawford next. But one of his other fighters could throw a monkey wrench into those plans - Viktor Postol, who currently holds the WBC 140-pound title.
Postol (28-0, 12KOs) and Crawford (28-0, 20KOs) - who holds the WBO belt at super lightweight - could be facing each other in a unification bout on July 23rd.
There are ongoing negotiations and there could be a finalized deal very shortly.
"That's a 50-50 fight, it's a great fight,"stated Roach on Monday morning at the Wild Card Boxing Club."I can't wait for that fight, get Postol ready for that fight. I like Postol in the fight and then maybe Manny has to fight him."
Roach believes that the reach, height and style of his boxer will trouble the skilled Crawford.
"He's very tall and he's very good at what he does. He's a very good gozer and he's not type to take chances and just try and knock you out," Roach said of Postol. "He'll set it up and he'll break you down. So he's a complete fighter. Again, Crawford's a very good fighter, also. So it's definitely a 50-50 fight and I look forward to it."
Crawford last seen in the ring back in January, when he returned his WBO title with a knockout of Hank Lundy in five rounds. Post capture the vacant WBC crown last October with a KO of Lucas Matthysse.
