Roach on Amir Khan Facing Erik Morales in December

By Chris LaBate

Fresh from his unification win over Zab Judah, the WBA/IBF junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is likely going to return in December. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is mentioning former champion Erik Morales as a possible opponent. Morales returns on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard, which is scheduled for September 17 in Las Vegas.

Roach would rather match Khan against Timothy Bradley or the winner of Robert Guerrero-Marcos Maidana. But if the fight gets made, Roach expects a real fight.

"Erik Morales did well in his last fight against Marcos Maidana. He's another experienced guy like Zab so you can never count him out. For me as a fan, I think there are better fights out there for Amir. But one thing you can say about Morales, he always comes to fight," Roach said.

Morales is 4-6 in his last 10 fights and 3-5 in his last 8. I hope no sanctioning body gives him a title shot til he improves on that.
