As BoxingScene.com recently reported, there are plans in motion to stage an April show, either on April 13 or April 20, with Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in separate fights - either from the same location or from different venues.
Marquez (55-6-1, 40KOs) and Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38KOs) are going to have tuneup bouts to further hype a potential fifth meeting in September. On December 8th they met for a fourth time and Marquez knocked Pacquiao out in the sixth round. Most outlets voted their match as the "Fight of The Year."
The two possible opponents being mentioned for both are Jessie Vargas (21-0, 9KOs) and Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22KOs).
Pacquiao's longtime trainer, Freddie Roach, is not on board with a tuneup fight. He would rather have Pacquiao rest, train, and then go straight into a fifth fight with Marquez in September.
"They're talking about a tuneup fight in Macau right now, with him and Marquez on the show together against different opponents and then a rematch in September........that's being negotiated right now. The thing is, I don't really want the tuneup fight. I would rather just go straight into to the fifth fight. I don't think a guy of Pacquiao's level needs a tuneup fight. Thing is, he's going to get right back on the horse. The first thing he said to me [after the loss to Marquez] - we need to do it one more time," Roach told Fight Hub TV.
