Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach views the participation of trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as a very positive factor - for the victory of WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather Sr. will be working the corner of his son, WBC/WBA champion welterweight Floyd Mayweather Jr., when the undefeated boxer faces Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Floyd Jr. would usually use his uncle, Roger Mayweather, as head trainer. Roger has been sidelined from being a full-time camp member due to health issues.

Roach considers Roger to be a much better trainer than his brother.

With Mayweather Sr. working the corner, Roach says Floyd Jr. will basically be on his own.

“The dad gets so nervous in between rounds, he has trouble getting the words out, he kind of stutters halfway through it, and he doesn’t really get the information across to the fighter.  I mean, I’m really happy he’s in the corner because the kid’s going to be fighting by himself," Roach told the Jim Rome show.

"I’m sure he’s done this his whole life, because he grew up in the gym, I’ve known him since he was five years old.  He was a good fighter at five, but the thing is, he’s always taught himself and he’s never really been taught the correct way to do things and I don’t think his father can deliver that.”
