In a recent interview with the Grand Rapids Press, trainer Freddie Roach downplayed any possibility of Floyd Mayweather Jr. facing Manny Pacquiao in the future. Mayweather faces WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on September 17, while Pacquiao takes on Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12.

However, Roach feels that his other star fighter, WBA 140-pound champion Amir Khan, has a much better shot to secure a fight with Mayweather. Khan faces IBF champion Zab Judah in a unification bout on July 23. Khan has already sat down with Golden Boy Promotions to discuss the possibility of facing Mayweather in 2012. Khan is confident the fight will happen within twelve months.

"I don't think Mayweather will ever fight Manny Pacquiao,” Roach said. "[Team Khan] have a better chance of getting Mayweather into the ring than Manny. If the fight (Mayweather-Pacquiao) was going to happen, it would've happened already."
