Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is ready to do whatever is necessary to get Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) in the ring for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather decisioned Pacquiao over twelve rounds last May in the most lucrative fight in boxing history. Pacquiao would blame his performance on a pre-existing right shoulder injury, which he says became worse in the fourth round of the fight.
Talk of a rematch never really happened, as Pacquiao underwent surgery on his shoulder and that kept him out of the ring until April of this year, and Mayweather retired from boxing after winning a decision over Andre Berto in September of last year.
Pacquiao announced his retirement in April after beating Timothy Bradley in their trilogy fight. He announced his return only two months later and came back to the ring on Saturday night with a dominating win over Jessie Vargas to capture the WBO welterweight title.
Roach says the comeback, at least to him, is to get Mayweather for a second time. Mayweather was at ringside to watch Pacquiao's fight against Vargas - which is generating speculation that a rematch will happen.
"We're here to get Mayweather back one more time. That's what I'm thinking. I'm not sure if Manny is on the same base with me right now, but I'm pretty sure he is. It's still the biggest fight in the world. The things is, whatever we have to do to get him in the ring - we have to do," Roach said.
If they get Mayweather in the ring, would that be the finally fight for Pacquiao?
"I'd like to say yes but I can't guarantee that, because I'm not Manny. He will talk to me about it. We will have a long discussion about it, and I don't think that there really is anything left. He's done everything. We might have to fight one more time, because if we beat him the second time we might have to fight the trilogy," Roach said.
