Veteran trainer Freddie Roach, who guides WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, is crossing his fingers that a deal gets finalized for a mega pay-per-view showdown against WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
There are ongoing negotiations to make Mayweather-Pacquiao in the coming months. If for whatever reason the Mayweather fight falls through, Roach admits the usually long list of backup options is pretty limited at this point.
Some "Plan B" names have been mentioned in the last few weeks, like undefeated WBA 'regular' junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
"If it doesn't happen, I think it will be disappointing for the whole world. I like to give the fans what they want. I like good fights just like everyone else in the world. Let's hope it happens," Roach told BoxingScene.com.
"If another fight comes along, we're not just going to sit here and wait for this guy. Activity if very important. I just don't know who's next. The pool is shallow. We don't have a lot of choices out there."
