| Rios vs. Alvarado II Could Be For Vacant WBO Crown

By Jhonny Gonzalez The World Boxing Organization is not denying the possibility that Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23KOs) and Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23KOs) will face off for the vacant WBO junior welterweight title. Top Rank is discussing the possibility of a rematch between the two boxers for an HBO date in March. The title became vacant when Juan Manuel Marquez moved up to welterweight to fight Manny Pacquiao for a fourth time. Rios, ranked now at number one, stopped Alvarado, now ranked at three, in the seventh round of a fight of the year candidate in October. Rios captured the WBO's Latino title with the victory. Top Rank would have to put in a request to the WBO and the fight would have to be scheduled for twelve rounds. The first meeting was a ten round contest. Watching the fight again, and boy oh boy, Alvarado was getting caught with a lot of stupid shots. |
