Rios Still Very Much an Option For Marquez on July 14th

By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has been advised that despite earlier reports that a junior welterweight fight between Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) and Zab Judah (42-7, 29KOs) is being discussed for July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Texas, former champion Brandon Rios (30-0-1, 22KOs) is still very much an option for Marquez.

Last month's split-site pay-per-view was put together by Top Rank to build a July meeting between Marquez and Rios. In the main event from Mexico, Marquez won the WBO's interim-junior welterweight title with a twelve round decision over Sergey Fedchenko. However, Rios struggled to make weight and won a controversial decision over Richard Abril in the lightweight co-feature.

While Judah is confident he will land the fight with Marquez, Rios is still being heavily considered for the spot.

rios has not proven his worth yet...an unknown abril exposed him...a total mismatch... maidana-marquez is better...

it's better then the judah fight....at least Rios will try to win unlike zab who will quit after 4 rounds..

rios' best win is anthony peterson. i wouldn't even pick rios in a rematch. the dude is fun to watch but i can't believe the hype he gets. people on here seriously thought he was gonna be a p4p fighter?…
