Rigondeaux Staying Sharp, Working With Pedro Diaz

By Giancarlo Oquendo

The reigning WBA 122-pound champion, Guillermo "The Jackal" Rigondeaux (11-0, 8KOs), is getting in some work with Cuban coach Pedro Diaz, who trains Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto among others.

A spokesperson for Team Rigondeaux made it clear that Diaz is not going to be a new trainer for the boxer. Rigondeaux will continue marching forward with his team of trainer Jorge Rubio and strength coach D.J. Montanocordoba. The two-time Olympic gold medal winner is working with Diaz at the moment to stay sharp, but the two of them will not be working together during Rigondeaux's next training camp.

Sources indicate that Rigondeaux is close to obtaining a unification fight against WBO champion Nonito Donaire in the month of April. The tentative date is April 27th, but that could change to an earlier position in the month or even move to March.
