Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10KOs) hopes his next fight will be very important and that all the stars will line up to see him become world champion again.
The Cuban boxer was scheduled to return this Saturday in Liverpool, but he was unable to go through with the scheduled fight against unbeaten Jazza Dickens due to an issue with obtaining a visa.
His promoters, Roc Nation Sports and Caribe Promotions, have spoken to map out his future and they appear to be on the same page.
"I think everything was clarified and most importantly Roc Nation expressed their full support me for my career, '' said Rigondeaux to George Ebro. "Sometimes you have to make decisions that are necessary. Everything happens for a reason and I ask my fans for patience. And I think the best is yet to come. The next fight will be something very big. ''
Rigondeaux was stuck in Russia, unable to enter the UK. As the situation was dragging on without a resolution, Rigondeaux made a decision with his trainer, Pedro Diaz, to fly back to Miami, Florida.
The Cuban fighter is the mandatory challenger to newly crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight world champion Carl Frampton, who captured the belt last month with a decision win over Scott Quigg.
Rigondeaux previously held the WBA's world title at the weight and saw it stripped away due to inactivity. He was last in action in November of last year.
"Rigo is in great physical and mental shape and right now he can fight anybody,'' said trainer Pedro Diaz. "I know the fans are desperate to see him fight and that will happen sooner rather than later. Then they will see that what I say is true. What we did [regarding the visa situation] was the right thing ."
