Rigondeaux Furious: Says He Was Ignored in San Antonio

By Reynaldo Sanchez

Las Vegas, NV - The newly crowned WBA super bantamweight world champion Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux is furious. The boxer was present at ringside on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, to watch Nonito Donaire capture the vacant WBO super bantamweight belt with a twelve round split decision over Wilfredo Vázquez Jr.

The unbeaten Cuban is alleging that HBO, Donaire, and even his own promoter, Top Rank, refused to acknowledged his presence at the Alamodome.

Rigondeaux (9-0, 7KOs), expressing his anger via telephone, complained that "HBO, Top Rank and even Nonito Donaire didn't want to mention anything about my presence [at the venue] or even a possible fight with [Donaire]."

Additionally, the two-time Olympic gold medal winner was angered by the post-fight interview involving HBO's boxing analyst Larry Merchant, who spoke to Donaire without a single mention of a possible fight with the other reigning champions at 122-pounds.

Rigondeaux cannot afford to have another inactive year such as he did in 2011. I would love to see a mega fight vs Nonito but realistically probably not gonna happen anytime soon. Screw it let it sizzle for a bit…
yes he did. his black american world class slickness, athleticism, along with his tremendous counter punching ability were on full display vs vasquez, a very good opponent for fighter making debut in a higher weight class. Not to mention doing…

Nonito's next fight is against Arce, then Nishioka and move up. I don't ever see him fighting Moreno or Rigondeaux, not even Gamboa at any point in his career.
