On December 9th Vasyl Lomachenko will defend his WBO World Super-Featherweight Title against undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux.

The two are arguably the greatest amateur fighters in history with both winning two Olympic gold medals apiece. Since turning professional, Lomachenko has dismantled world class fighters repeatedly but will come up against perhaps his biggest test in Rigondeaux, despite the Cuban moving up two weight classes.

Speaking to Behind The Gloves, ‘El Chacal’ was happy to finally land a career defining match-up: “This is not going to just be any kind of fight, I thank the fans for asking for the fight. Everyone’s really excited to see this match-up. You're finally going to see it. It's going to be a great fight."

The former unified World Super-Bantamweight Champion has had a well-documented struggle to land the big fights, aside from a 2013 bout with Nonito Donaire. “We tried [different weights], my manager tried everything he could so we had to go to [Super-Featherweight].

“It's two divisions but we're giving the fans what they want so I'm ready to fight". The 37 year-old doesn’t seem concerned about the weight difference, adding: "When there is quality you don't need size or weight, size or weight in not an issue. The worst poisons come in small containers!"

When asked for his reaction to Lomachenko’s statement about “destroying Rigondeaux”, the Cuban fired back: “On the night of the fight, you know where to find me, I'm going to be there. Let's see on December 9th if Lomachenko does what he says he's going to do!”
