Ricky Hatton license as a promoter could be in trouble. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) is requesting to meet with the Manchester star in the wake of his weekend scandal with the use of cocaine. On Saturday News of The World published a video that showed Hatton snorting several lines of cocaine in a bathroom. A Hatton rep told media members that a rehab program was being considered to assist the fighter's battle with drug addiction. Hatton followed through with that promise and reportedly entered rehab on Monday.
Hatton renewed his boxer's license with the BBBoC in July. The Board seems more concerend with the handling of numerous fighters under his promotional company, Hatton Promotions. They have strict rules that prohibit drug abuse by individuals licensed through the BBBoC.
"The Board want to see Ricky at the earliest opportunity and discuss the issues raised in the press accounts," said BBBoC chairman Charles Giles.
The BBBoC stated - "The Board enforces the strictest standards with regard to the use of both recreational and performance enhancing drugs by participants in any capacity in professional boxing."
"It is concerned at all times to ensure that the sport is run in the best interests, both of those who take part in boxing and the public interest, and that those involved in professional boxing do nothing to damage the reputation of the sport."
