NATHAN CLEVERLY’S hopes of a summer showdown with Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32KOs)have been boosted after positive talks between promoters this week.
The unbeaten Welshman (24-0, 11KOs), 25, defends his WBO light-heavyweight title against German Robin Krasniqi at the Royal Albert Hall on April 28. On the same night Hopkins, 47, puts his WBC belt on the line against rival Yank Chad Dawson.
Providing they both win, the plan is then to match them in a world title unification clash in Cardiff.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, whose company represents Hopkins, was in London last week to discuss the fight with Cleverly’s promoter Frank Warren.
Schaefer said: “Hopkins-Cleverly is a real possibility. We don’t want to jinx anything but, if everything goes well, I would very much like to make that fight.”
