Ricardo Williams Jr.: record, next fight and profile →
By Jake Donovan - Resurgent welterweight contender Carson Jones picked his seventh straight win – all by knockout - after scoring a fourth round stoppage of Ricardo Williams Jr on Thursday evening in Oklahoma City. Jones scored three knockdowns en route to becoming the first fighter to stop Williams Jr., who had won nine straight since returning to the ring in 2008.
Ricardo Williams Jr., 19-2 (10 KOs), challenges Carson Jones, 32-8-2 (22 KOs), for the USBA welterweight title tonight at Remington Park in Jones' hometown of Oklahoma City. The fight will be a significant gauge to the pugilistic ability that Williams, a 2000 Olympic silver medalist, has retained after a rollercoaster life and career.
LOS ANGELES - Ricardo Williams has endured throughout the good and bad times. But now, he believes he has a chance to finally achieve the goals he set out to accomplish back when he fought for his country in the 2000 Olympics, winning a silver medal in the process. Now it all comes down to the next obstacle in his way, a battle that takes place on December 15. "Slicky Ricky," as the Cincinnati, OH native is referred to, will be fighting the champion, Carson Jones, for the USBA welterweight championship.
Oklahoma City, OK - USBA welterweight champion Carson Jones will look to take another step towards his dream of fighting for a world title when he battles 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Ricardo “Slicky Ricky” Williams in the main event of “The Corona Rumble at Remington, Presented by Monster Energy” Thursday, December 15 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, OK.
Super bantamweight prospect Rico Ramos took the biggest step of his young career, scoring a competitive but clear unanimous decision over former title challenger Alejandro Valdez on Friday evening at on Friday night at Bally’s in Atlantic City, New Jersey. By Keith Idec - Ricardo Williams doesn’t think it’s too late to become the fighter he was supposed to be. Ten years have passed since promoter Lou DiBella believed enough in his talent to give Williams a $1.4 million signing bonus. He still hasn’t beaten a top 10 contender, much less won a world title. And the former Olympic silver medalist has since spent more months in prison than he has in The Ring magazine’s rankings. But Williams is still just 29, young enough, he believes, to make it all right. “My biggest problem has been matching my conditioning with my talent,” Williams said. “If I can get my conditioning to match my talent, the sky’s the limit.” Williams’ lack of conditioning was the primary reason DiBella released him from his contract nearly eight years ago. The fact that the Cincinnati native is still saying such things about getting in proper shape surely will make doubters dismiss Williams’ ability to become a real player at welterweight in 2011, but all Williams wanted was a chance.
