Ricardo Mayorga vs. Andrey Sirotkin - Now For WBC Silver Title

By Elisinio Castillo

Promoter Vladimir "Krasivyy" Hryunov revealed that his upcoming main event is now going to have a title at stake.

BoxingScene.com revealed last month that a deal was finalized for former world champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga (32-9-1, 26 KOs) to take on undefeated super middleweight prospect Andrey Sirotkin (13-0, 3 KOs), also known as "El Toro." The fight takes place in Russia on the 3rd of November.

Hyrunov attended the World Boxing Council's 55th annual convention, which this week took place in Baku, and was able to receive approval to have the fight sanctioned for a WBC silver title at 168-pounds.

Mayorga, 43-years-old and a former world champion at welterweight and junior middleweight, comes in with a record of 32 wins, 26 via knockout, 9 losses and a draw.

The controversial Nicaraguan fighter returned to the ring in April, at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds, and stopped Jaudiel Zepeda in three rounds.

Two fighters recently took part in a split-feed press conference to announce their November fight.

"I'm going to eat a bull," Mayorga said. "In Nicaragua on November 2 is the Day of the Dead, but I'm going to make the 3rd [of November], the day of the dead in Russia."

"In Russia, they will only have to pay me to fight a single round. In Russia they will never forget my arrival, because in only thirty seconds I am going to knock him out."

Mayorga's last win of substance came in November of 2007, when he dropped former world champion Fernando Vargas on route to a twelve round decision win at a catch-weight of 164-pounds.

He was knocked out by Miguel Cotto in the twelfth round of their 2011 junior middleweight showdown in Las Vegas and then took a few years off to explore a career in mixed martial arts.

Sirotkin, 32 years old, turned pro in 2014 and fought five times in 2016. This will be his third fight of 2017. With only three knockouts on his record, he will be looking to outbox Mayorga in the fight.

Mayorga is 1,000 years old and has been ripping cigs since he was a toddler.

Damn Mayorga is still fighting?

Sad part is Mayorga has NEVER been good, he landed a lucky punch against Forest in the 1st fight and he's been a "name" every since, off of a victory over a decade ago.
