On the undercard to Edwin Valero-Antonio Pitalua at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, Rolando Reyes (31-4-2, 20KOs) stopped former lightweight champion Julio Diaz (36-5, 26KOs) in the fifth round.
The first four rounds were close. Diaz was landing better punches while Reyes was mostly defensive, catching a lot of punches and looking for big counters. During the fifth, a combination from Reyes got Diaz in trouble. Reyes then landed a big right hand and a left uppercut that sent him down. Diaz made it up but Reyes battered him with punches, sending him down and put him away for the upset win as the ref stopped it.
