Rendall Munroe Makes it Official, Retires From Boxing

Leicester's Rendall Munroe has told the BBC that he is retiring from the sport of boxing following his WBA interim super bantamweight title defeat to Scott Quigg.  Munroe, who was nicknamed "The Boxing Binman" by his fans due to his day job, was stopped in the sixth by Quigg, his first stoppage defeat in 28-fights, 24-3-1 (10), and has decided that his journey has come to an end.

"I'm always positive and forward thinking and I've had a great career.  I am 100% proud of what I have done," said Munroe when speaking to BBC East Midlands radio.  "I was English, Commonwealth, European and WBA international [super bantamweight] champion and a world title contender."

Munroe challenged Toshiaki Nishioka for the WBC title in 2010, he went to Tokyo hoping to pull off anupset only to drop a wide decision.  His other defeat came to Andy Morris in 2006, a British featherweight title challenge.  His only other blemish was a technical draw against Quigg earlier this year.  As mentiomned above, Munroe, 32, picked up the English, European, Commonwealth and WBA International super bantamweight titles; he will be missed, but looked jaded against Quigg and has probably made the right decision at the right time.

Probably a good decision. His win over Terrazas and his brave fight with Nishioka were really impressive. I wish him the best.

Top European class fighter who tried his best against Nishioka but the levels were evident. Didn't think he'd retire but I can understand his reluctance to start all over again.
