'Chino' and Pogline Settle the Score

Steve Mestas and Airtight Boxing made there 2015 debut at the Radisson Hotel in Aurora, Colorado, just south of Denver. A ruckus bunch of enthusiastic fight fans jammed packed the ballroom as a standing room only crowd was treated a fantastic night of fisticuffs.

In the main event, Raul Carrillo battled back from two knockdowns and an injury to defeat Tyler Pogline. In what was a tough bout to score and watch, Brittany Cruz and Angela Hayes settled for a draw. Johnny Gonzales went “beast mode” on Ricardo Reyes, stopping him in three furious rounds. In his pro debut Eddie Moreno decisions Antonio Solorzano. Isaac Atencio stops Deane Williams in the second. Armando Vera make Dylan Oligo quit after three. Andrew Scripture, Hector Lumba and Cecelia Martinez all pick up W’s in exhibition bouts.

Carrillo survives two knockdowns, comes back to stop Pogline in a flat out war!!!

“El Chino” Raul Carrillo survives the onslaught of Tyler Pogline, pounding away at the body for a tko victory. Carrillo starting at the body and moving upstairs with his punches. Pogline with a nice right hook off the ropes. Carrillo with a fast pace in round one as he smothers Pogline. A left hook from Pogline drops Carrillo, hurting him badly. Carrillo is possibly saved by bell, Zack Morris style.

Carrillo comes out with a vengeance to avenge the knock down in the first. What a frantic pace these fighters are fighting at. Carrillo clubs Pogline with a left hook. Pogline staggers Carrillo with a counter right hand. Just when it seems Pogline is wavering, he drills Carrillo. Carrillo with a blitzing left hook. Pogline drops Carrillo again!

Pogline rocks Carrillo with a left hook along the ropes. Carrillo seems to have an injured right knee. Pogline is sitting in his counter shots. Carrillo digging deep to the body but he hits Pogline with a low blow. After a brief break, Carrillo jumps all over Pogline, beating him with body shots as Referee Tom Johnson call a halt to the action.

Carrillo improves to 15-1 while Pogline drops to 5-11.

I’ve been calling it for years, Raul Carrillo vs Manny Perez would be a instant classic. It’s time for both promoters, Airtight Boxing and Ghost Town Gladiators to get together and give the fight fans a fight we all want to see.

Cruz and Hayes wrestle to a split draw over six rounds

Brittany Cruz could never get on track as Angela Hayes wrestled with and pressured her all night. Cruz pumping the jab in round one. Slow round to start things off. Cruz opening up more in the second round. Hayes has also found her groove as she catches Cruz with a right hand. The action is picking up here in round two. Cruz with a intentional head butt, looking a bit frustrated and maybe unfocused. Hayes pressuring and mauling Cruz as the round comes to a end.

Cruz is slipping the power shots of Hayes in round three with great defensive moves. Hayes is warned for hitting behind the head. Cruz with a right hand to end the round. Hayes is one gritty fighter, will not stop pressing forward. Cruz is having a hard time with the mauling style of Hayes. Cruz starting to pop shot Hayes to off set Hayes bull rushes. Hayes continues to press forward. What a tough fight to score, I wouldn’t want to be a judge tonight. Cruz with a step back, counter right hand to end the round.

We go to the scorecards. Judge Tom Johnson scores the bout 58-56 for Hayes, Judge Ed Kugker scores the bout 58-56 Cruz and Judge Steve Waldman scores the bout, 57-57, and we have a split draw.

Each lady takes a step sideways with Cruz landing at 9-6-2, 1KO and Hayes is all even at 1-1-1.

Armando Vera beats a tough but inexperienced Dylan Oligo.

Vera with a straight right down the pipe as Oligo walks right into it. A lot of sloppy boxing in round one. Vera drops Oligo with a left hook in round two. Oligo is winded as the round comes to a end. Vera drops Oligo with a straight right hand in round three. A tired Oligo is standing and trading with Vera.

Oligo quits in the corner between the 3rd and 4th rounds. The official time is :01 of round number four.

Vera improves to 2-0 and Oligo debuts at 0-1

Rodriguez and Reyes engage in an early candidate for Rocky Mountain Boxing’s Fight of the Year

Johnny Rodriguez wages war with Ricardo Reyes, stopping the gladiator inside of three rounds. Clean right hand from Rodriguez to start the action. Stiff jab from Reyes. Rodriguez with a right cross as Reyes responds with a left hook. These men are trading some heavy artillery here in round one. Rodriguez stuns Reyes with a right hand during an exchange. Rodriguez unloading with combinations trying to end the fight. There is no quit in Reyes as Rodriguez is wearing him down. Reyes is on wobbly legs as he fights off the attack of Rodriguez. What a fight! These gentleman are throwing caution to the wind, whoa!

Rodriguez hammering Reyes with right hands. Reyes isn’t quitting though as he fires back. Rodriguez with a thundering right hook to the body, dropping Reyes after a body shot delayed reaction. A leveling right hand from Rodriguez as Reyes drops again. It’s over folks!

Rodriguez improves to 4-0-1 while Reyes drops to 2-2

Moreno makes debut with win over Solorzano

Eddie Moreno wins a blood bath, decisions Antonio Solorzano over four rounds. Solorzano with a solid right hand over the top. Solorzano is timing Moreno with the right hand. Moreno starting to attack the body. Good competitive round to start the fight. Moreno pressing the action in round two. An uppercut on the inside for Solorzano. Moreno digging to the body of Solorzano. Moreno with a big right hand down the pipe. Solorzano fighting back as Moreno is pressing the action. Solorzano is a bloody mess as the round comes to an end.

Solorzano reaches with a left hook to start round three. Good action as both fighters bang away on the inside. An overhand right from Solorzano as Moreno is backing up. Moreno continues to pound away at the body. Solorzano with a punishing body shot onto Moreno. Solorzano has found his second wind and presses forward. Moreno is not giving in as he delivers an overhand right. Both fighters trade left hooks on the inside. Exciting back and forth action as blood splatters across press row.

All three judges score it the same, 40-36, for your winner by unanimous decision, Eddie Moreno.

Moreno improves opens his pro career at 1-0 while Solorzano drops to 1-4.

Atencio returns heavy, picks up an easy victory

Issac Atencio of the fighting Atencio Familia, stops an over matched Deane Williams. Atencio is boxing patiently, waiting for an opening. Atencio lands a three punch combination, finishing with a left hook to the body. Williams came to fight though as he offers up a response on punches. Atencio is killing the body and Williams is feeling it and visibly showing it. Like a shark in bloody water, Atencio goes for the kill. Atencio is punishing Williams body, dropping and stopping him with a barrage.

Atencio improves to 4-4-1 while Williams drops to 0-1-1.

Scripter mauls Perez in two rounds

An inspiration to other 40+ year old’s Scripter jumps all over James Perez, stopping him in the 2nd round. Scripter starts the fight with his usual choice of overhand rights. Perez is starting to feel the effects of Scripter’s body punching. Scripter tags Perez with a straight right hand in the corner. Scripter is bullying Perez around the ring in the second. Scripter is dropping right hands over the top of Perez’s guard. Scripter is relentless in his attack as referee Tom Johnson steps in at 2:49 and stops the onslaught.

Lumba beats Pierce in a grudge match

Heavyweight Hector Lumba bloodies Donald Pierce before finishing him off in two rounds. Both fighters meet in the center of the ring and go to war. Non stop punching from both fighters. Lumba catches Pierce with a big right hand, wobbling and hurting Pierce. Lumba then drops Pierce with a straight right in the corner. Pierce survives only to be dropped again with another right hand. Pierce is saved by the bell. What an exiting round! Round two starts the same way as both fighters meet in the center of the ring and exchange haymakers. Pierce is wobbled and stopped by a bull rushing, Perez.

Martinez is the ‘Lil Girl Gatti of the Rockies’ hammering out a tough decision over Harris

Cecilia Martinez, bloodied but guts out a decision win over Amy Harris. These young ladies should be proud of themselves as they went to battle for three solid rounds of action. Martinez boxing from the outside, popping the jab. A straight right from Martinez turns Harris around. Both fighters are trading leather as the crowd is on their feet. Martinez with the pressure, drilling Harris with combinations. Harris is a tough customer, not giving into Martinez’s pressure. Blood from the nose of Martinez begins to flow.

These young ladies are giving the crowd some exciting action threw three, hard fought rounds. Martinez is starting to land at will resulting in a standing eight count as the round comes to an end, in the exhibition bout.

What a fantastic of night of boxing in Colorado. Steve “Match Makin” Mestas proves once again why he is the best promoter in the state. A round of applause and thank you to the fighters for their effort and performances tonight. The fans literally were on their feet all night, rattling the chandaliers of the Radison Hotel. Mestas is looking to come back in May with his next show.
