Ramirez Raises His Hand To Face Marco Antonio Rubio

By Salvador Rodriguez

22-year-old Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez (26-0, 20KOs) has raised his hand to face Marco Antonio Rubio (58-6-1, 50KOs) for the interim-middleweight championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Ramirez is ranked at number four, while Rubio is the mandatory challenger to the crown currently held by Sergio Martinez. Rubio is putting pressure on the WBC to force a fight with Martinez, who is out of action until the first half of 2014 due to injuries. Ramirez returns to action on December 7th in Oklahoma.

"Of course I'll raise my hand to fight Rubio, that's my goal. I really want that fight. Before I think about Rubio, I have my next fight and that is the most important thing to me right now," Ramirez said.

Marco Antonio Rubio?! The Junior State senator from Florida who vehemently opposed the Affordable Care Act?
