Roger Mayweather, co-trainer and uncle of WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., is expecting a very short night on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He predicts his nephew will score a knockout victory over WBO champion Manny Pacquiao within five rounds.
“I believe he’ll knock him out within five rounds. I can’t see nothing that Pacquiao can do. It’s just a matter of Floyd being focused and doing what he needs to do. And that’s whoop his ass. Let’s get there, get him out the way and go to the next one,” Roger told The Telegraph.
Father and head trainer for the Pacquiao fight, Floyd Mayweather Sr., would like to see his son retire after a dominating on Saturday night.
Uncle Roger has a different frame of mind. He wants his nephew, currently at 47-0, to continue forward until he breaks the record of heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano, who retired as champion with a 49-0 record.
“I’d like to see Floyd beat Rocky Marciano’s record. And I know he can. Floyd can box at middleweight and he doesn’t even fight at middleweight. He fights at welterweight. He trains with welterweights, he trains with middleweights. It’s part of boxing,” Roger said.
