Uncle and co-trainer Roger Mayweather is saying that his nephew, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs), needs to knock Manny Pacquiao(57-5-2, 38 KOs) out in order to receive full credit in victory. The fight takes place on Saturday, May 2nd, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roger is officially predicting a knockout victory within five rounds of action. While some experts are calling Pacquiao the toughest opponent of Floyd's career - Roger has a different opinion on the matter. He says Emmanuel Augustus were tougher opponents. Father, and current header trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. agrees with his brother. In a recent interview he said Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Marcos Maidana were all tougher opponents than Pacquiao.
"Every time somebody talks about the fight, 'Oh, you know you're definitely going to have to knock out Pacquiao, otherwise, he (Mayweather) ain't going to get no credit,'" Roger Mayweather said to Mlive.com. "But that's part of boxing. As good as Floyd is supposed to be, I don't think that they ... are going to give him the credit that he deserves (without a knockout). It ain't close to Floyd's toughest fight. Floyd's fought better guys than Pacquiao."
"Floyd's got to show, to me, he's got to show that he's a dominant force over Pacquiao," he said. "That's what I think he's got to show. And then that shows how good he is. But he's got to show that. He's got to show that."
