Recently, it was speculated that the fight between International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion Miguel "Puppet" Vazquez, and mandatory challenger Marvin Quintero, would take place on September 15th as part of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez HBO pay-per-view at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. That possibility has never been confirmed.
Quintero (25-3, 21 KOs) is co-promoted by Baja Boxing and Gary Shaw. The Mexican boxer has stayed busy and even served as the chief sparring partner to Timothy Bradley as the unbeaten boxer prepared for his June fight with Manny Pacquiao.
"I have been made to understand that Vazquez has until October to make his mandatory defense, so it is safe to wait until that time. Since I won the right to fight him, I keep thinking about the fight. He will be a tough opponent, but I know that I have all the necessary resources to overcome him and be crowned as world champion," said Marvin.
"I am very grateful to Baja Boxing and its president Antonio Lozada, for the unconditional support that he always have given me. He and his people have always trusted me. I can only pay them back by winning fights. I want to also thank all of the fans in Tijuana and Culiacan for all the support that I've received from them. For everyone we are going to get a world championship in the coming months."
