WBA World Super bantamweight titlist Scott Quigg took to Twitter today to confirm that he has had to undergo hand surgery. The Manchester Evening News broke the story yesterday, indicating that the Bury-based boxer could be out until the summer, and Quigg’s Tweet confirmed that the surgery has been successful.

The 26-year-old had hoped to appear on a show at Manchester's Phones 4u Arena on March 28, but the injury to his right hand, which he picked up during his decision win over the teak tough Japan-based boxer Hidenori Otake last month, has derailed his early-2015 plans.

Eddie Hearn, Quigg's promoter, is eager to build on his fighter's busy recent run—he fought three times this year—and mentioned former IBF holder Kiko Martinez as a potential foe.

“I quite like the Kiko Martinez fight,” stated Hearn when speaking to the MEN's James Robson.  “I think stylistically it's a great fight.  The argument is [IBF title-holder Carl] Frampton has beaten him twice, but he's had two good fights with him.  He's a name.”

Hearn also acknowledge that Quigg needs to secure a big fight at some point in 2015.

“For credibility (he needs to),” he added.  “But he's been so active.  We could have just waited for the right fight, but instead we've kept him active and that's key.”
