Moments after the action packed fight that was Lucas Matthysse-Ruslan Provodnikov, Provodnikov’s promoter was pushing for a rematch because although Matthysse won the fight on the cards, everyone won.
“This could be something like Gatti-Ward,” Artie Pelullo told BoxingScene.com. “Nobody lost tonight. Yes, Matthysse won the fight but we all won because it was a great fight. I’m happy, Oscar (De La Hoya’s) happy, HBO’s happy. I think we should do this again.”
Matthysse won a majority decision with the scorecards tally being 114-114,115-113 on the two of the scorecards. While Matthysse told the ringside press, he wanted the winner of the big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Both Pelullo is pushing for the fight to happen again.
“It was a close fight,” said Pelullo. “I believe Harold Lederman hit it a draw. I’m already pushing Oscar to make a rematch because the fans win. Had there not been a cut, who knows when Ruslan comes in. I think we saw a great fight tonight. I think the fans won and this can be out Gatti-Ward, let’s do a trilogy.”
